At least 12 out of 15 accused have been arrested in connection with smuggling and poaching of endangered pangolins in Khammam district of Telangana. At least 3.1 kg of Pangolin Scales worth Rs 40 lakhs have been recovered from their position.
According to the Forest officials, a special team led by FDO Kinnerasani Damodar Reddy arrested a person Badavath Ravi of Kothagudem and recovered 10 pangolin scales wrapped in a polyethene cover from his possession. Based on the information he provided raids were conducted in Hyderabad, Bhadrachalam, Guntur and Lambasangi in Andhra Pradesh rounded of several persons in connection with the smuggling.
As of now 12 persons have been arrested and remanded in Khammam sub-jail by FRO Chnadrugonda. The Forest Special Teams are in search of other 3 persons in this case.
