At least 160 Indian crew members and 8 Indian passengers were among others stranded on a luxury cruise ship off the coast in Japan have appealed to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to rescue them from the ship at the earliest.
In a video message released through social media, they said the Japanese authorities refused to allow the cruise to enter their port fearing the spread of deadly Coronavirus after over 66 persons were said to have found positive.
Now the Indians stranded on the cruise have released the video, requesting Prime Minister Narendra Modi to save them. Binay Kumar Sarkar, who has been stranded in Japanese cruise, has posted a video on his Facebook profile, in which he said that the coronavirus has been confirmed in the investigation report of 66 more citizens on the cruise.
After this, crew members are scared. There have been positive reports of 137 people on board the cruise. This is when a sample of 500 out of the 3700 people, including crew members on a cruise named Diamond Princess, has been tested.
In the video, Binay Kumar Sarkar said, “We are 160 crew members and eight Indian passengers. Ninety per cent of the Indian crew is safe. I want to request Modiji to save us and send us home.“
It is being told that this cruise reached the coast of Japan last week. The coronavirus was confirmed on 2 February in a passenger who landed in Hong Kong on 25 January.
After the coronavirus was confirmed in the passenger who took off from the cruise, the Japanese government banned the landing of anyone from the cruise. Also, it is kept separate from other ships at the port.
According to the news agency PTI, the Health Ministry of Japan has said that the situation on the cruise is very bad. The coronavirus is spreading rapidly among the people stranded on it. About 600 people need immediate treatment.
After Binay’s video went viral, Foreign Minister S Jaishankar has said that India is keeping a close watch on the developments. The coronavirus has not been confirmed in any Indian crewmember or passenger. At the same time, the Indian embassy has also confirmed the Indians being stranded in the cruise.
