1969 Veteran Raghuveer Rao Is No More, CM Expresses Grief

Hyderabad, Feb. 5 (Telemedia) : Noted Telangana Protagonist and veteran of 1969 Telangana movement Santapuri Raghuveer Rao breathed his last today due to prolonged illness. He was 86 and survived by wife and a son. He was one of the founders of Telangana Praja Samithi, the organization that first raised the demand for Telangana’s statehood and spearheaded the Jai Telangana Movement in 1969.

A journalist by profession, Raghuveer Rao who was working with Andhra Bhumi along with three other journalists Pratap Kishore of Deccan Chronicle and PN Swamny of Andhra Bhoomi formed the Telangana Praja Samithi in January 1969 and raised the demand for a separate State of Telangana.

Raghuveer Rao carried out the relentless struggle for Telangana’s statehood along with the other founding members and 1969 udhyamakarulu throughout the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s right upto 2014 inspite of failing health.

Raghuveer Rao, the last of the founders of the State of Telangana, embodied the spirit of the founding fathers who kept up the struggle for Telangana State even in the face of ridicule and contempt heaped on the Telangana activists in the 80’s and 90’s.

Chief Minister K.Chandrasekhar Rao expressed shock and grief at the sudden demise of Raghuveer Rao. In a press statement issued by the Chief Minister’s office here today said that the CM has recollected his fearless struggle for the cause of Telangana and added that the Telangana state will not forget his sacrifice and will honour him suitably. He also declared that his government would help his family in every possible manner. The CM also recollected how Raghuveer Rao backed him during the early days of TRS and said after he became Chief Minister, inspite of his ill health he came to bless me. He conveyed his deep sorrow to the members of the bereaved family.

The Working President of the Telangana Praja Samithi (TPS) Neera Kishore  expressed her grief and said that ‘Raghuveer Rao was our mentor and leader and his fearlessness in fighting for the Telangana’s cause is legendary. The state has to honour this valiant son of Telangana”

President Telangana Praja Samithi, Bhoopati Krishnamoorthi said he lost a good friend and his contribution to Telangana movement was outstanding. General Secretary of TPS G.Siddappa also condoled the death of Raghuveer rao.

The President of 1969 Udhyamakarula Samkhya, Dr. Kolluri Chiranjeevi expressed the shock and said Telangana has yet lost another veteran of 69 movement after Pratap Kishore and PN Swamy. While recollecting the sacrifices, he made, Dr. Chiranjeevi said that they are unparellel and cann’t be replaced. He should be given due place in the books of history. 

The funeral will be held tomorrow on February 7, at 12 noon at his residence. And will be brought to the Martryrs memorial at gun park at Noon for the people to pay their respects.
