In yet another major train accident, 20 passengers of an MMTS local train received minor injuries after the two trains collided head-on at Kachiguda Railway Station today. The incident occurred a few minutes from now when the MMTS rail coming from Faluknuma rammed into a stationery Kurnool intercity passenger train stranded at platform resulting in the derailment of 3 bogies of MMTS.
However, no casualties were reported except for the MMTS driver who identified as Shekhar was badly got struck in the cabin that was completely mangled. Oxygen is being pumped into the cabin. Efforts are on to save the driver.
The reason for the accident is said to be an error in the signalling system. It is not yet known whether how the signal was given to the MMTS when another train was already there on the same track ahead.
Railway authorities have immediately rushed to the spot and enquiry is on to ascertain the reasons behind the incident.
The South Central Railway Authorities informed later that only 12 persons were injured in the incident. They were shifted to Osmani General Hospital where they are undergoing treatment. Two passengers, however, were discharged after treating them as outpatients. The SCR also said the 3 bogies of Kurnool intercity express and 6 bogies of MMTS were affected due to the accident.
Senior Railway officials including Additional General Manager BB Singh, Chief Security Commissioner, Divisional Railway Manager, Hyderabad Chief Medical Director, Chief Safety Officer along with medical relief vans and accident relief train rushed to the spot. Temporarily, the train services between Kachiguda-Faluknuma section have been affected.
