22 ST hostel, 2 OU girls hostel inmates test positive, OU not to postpone exams


The instances of students testing positive for Covid-19 has been reported from various educational institutions in Telangana with as many as 24 students including 2 from girls hostel in Osmania University in the city.


At least 22 students of class 7-10 in the Rajendranagar ST boys hostel were tested positive today after they have undergone testing. Besides, the welfare officer and the watchman of the same hostel were also tested positive.

The Commissioner of Tribal Welfare Dr Christina Z Chongthu informed the media that all those tested positive were immediately quarantined in the same hostel premises while the rest of the students along with 2 other staff members were sent away to their native places by arranging transportation.

She further informed that a duty doctor and a nursing staff had been deployed at the hostel besides arranging medicines, dry fruits and other food supplements for the students to enable increase immunity in them, she said adding that special monitoring of their health is being done from time to time on the students.

Meanwhile, 2 girl inmates of the Osmania University hostel during a screening for Covid-19 yesterday. the Registra said the two girls were immediately isolated. University is making arrangements to screen the remaining boarders.

Regarding the demand for postponement of examinations scheduled to commence from tomorrow, University is not inclined to postpone the examinations as more than eight thousand students are appearing for examinations including the students from district centres, such as Siddipet, Medak, Sangareddy, Vikarabad, etc.

However, University assures that those students who cannot appear for examinations from tomorrow, for the reasons of Covid-19, re-examination will be conducted and the same will not be treated as supplementary.
