24 JNU students, One faculty injured in group clashes, admitted in AIIMS


At least 25 students including president of the students union of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Aishe Gosh were admitted in the trauma centre of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi last night with serious injuries.

They were said to be injured in group clashes that erupted last night. Hordes of students wielding lathis and iron rods said to have attacked the hostel premises belonging to another group. A faculty member identified as Sushmita Sen was also received serious injuries. Aishe Gosh was admitted with bleeding head injuries.

It may be recalled, the students have been protesting in the campus over the fee hike for some time now and in the process, AVBP and JNSU have been at loggerheads over the issue that reported to have led to the incident.

Meanwhile, the political party leaders began thronging the AIIMS to inquire about the students’ health. They include Priyanka Gandhi of Congress and Meenakshi Lekhi of BJP who arrived at the hospital this morning. Delhi Chief Minister Aravind Kejriwal condemned the incident and asked police to contain the violence in the campus.
