The Customs and Enforcement officials have seized gold weighing around 3,756 grams and 59,000 cigarettes of foreign brands at Kozhikode and Kolkata airports.
According to the Customs officials, at least 13 people were arrested in this connection in two separate cases. In the first instance at Kozhikode airport in Tiruvananthapuram, 5 passengers were detained for illegally carrying gold weighing 2,601 grams and 624 grams gold from another passenger. Six others were also detained for attempting to smuggle 59,000 foreign cigarettes into the country.
In a second instance in Netaji Subash Chandra Bose airport in Kolkata, 531.20 grams of gold wrapped in chocolate papers were seized. Further investigation is on.
