3221 panchayats go for 3rd phase polling in AP today

AP Police on duty at Panchayat elections are helping old and handicapped to vote by bringing them to the polling booths.

Elaborate arrangements have been made by the Andhra Pradesh government in view of the 3rd phase of panchayat polls to be held till 3.30 pm today.


The State Election Commission has released a notification for conducting the elections in about 3,221 panchayats in about 160 mandal of 26,851 pollling centres.

However, over 579 sarpanch posts have been declared elected unanimously in the 3rd phase besides 11,753 posts in 31,516 municipal wards earlier.

Polling will be held for the 2,639 Sarpanchs posts for which over 7,757 contestants are in the fray. In about 19,553 wards, over 43,162 candidates are in the fray.

The SEC has also identified 4,118 places as tourble-torn areas and 3,127 are highly sensitive areas which mostly are in Naxal affect areas wherein the polling would be held only upto 1.30 pm.

The total of 55,75,000 voters are likely to excise their franchise today amidst the supervision of 3,025 election monitoring staff.

The counting will commence from 4 pm and the results will follow soon, said the SEC.
