In a major Naxal attack this year, at least 5 jawans were killed and 15 others were found missing in continuing exchange of fire since last night in the jungles of Tarrem in Bijapur district of Chattisgarh.
According to the details available, the encounter began around 6 pm last night and said to be continuing till now. The encounter began when the special teams combing the area for Madvi Hidma, a top Naxal leader of the banned CPI (Maoist) responsible for the major attacks including the 2013 Jhiram Ghati killings wherein over 30 Congress party leaders were killed in an election campaign.
The encounter has resulted in injuries to as many as 23 jawans including the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) of Chattisgarh. They were shifted to Bijapur and Raipur hospitals for treatment. Additional reinforcements have been summoned to the location where the encounter is going.
Chattisgarh Director General of Police (DGP) DM Awasthi informed media that 3 DRG Jawans, 2 CRPF Jawans and one naxalite were killed last night. And this morning they found, 15 others were found missing.
