The Indian Postal Service will open all its 633 Post Offices besides 4967 Branch Offices across the state beginning April 1st.
Savings Bank operations like Deposits/ Withdrawals, Balance enquiry etc., will be provided in addition to the facility for booking of Speed Post, Regd. Post, eMO, Parcels etc. However, it may be noted that in view of the flights, road transport and rail network being completely suspended, the booking of Speed Post, Regd. Post and Postal articles will be subject to delay.
It said in a statement that only 37 Head Post Offices including Hyderabad GPO were kept open during the lockdown period. Three mobile mail vans were also made operational covering the colonies of Padmaraonagar, Golconda Chowrastha, Gandhi Nagar, Jamistanpur, Chikkadapalli, Ashoknagar, Kulsumpura, Karwan Sahu, Toli Chowki, Mehdipatnam, Golconda etc. and ensured transactions like deposits, withdrawals etc. for the public.
Further, it said, Department of Posts and its staff ensured delivery of 4400 bags and 5525 examination parcels relating to SSC / Intermediate Boards. These articles were handed over to respective Evaluation Centres in coordination with the concerned officials of the Education Department.
In all 23,768 SB transactions with Deposits, Rs.30.04 Crores and withdrawals amounting to Rs.19.15 Crores have been undertaken in addition to disbursement of Rs.48,32,800/- through ATMs located at the Post Offices.
All arrangements are being made for disbursement of Aasara Pensions at the Branch Post Offices to over 22 lakh Aasara beneficiaries. Instructions are issued for maintenance of Hygiene, Social Distancing etc. Necessary Sanitizers, Masks and Gloves are also being supplied to the Post Offices / Staff.
Mail Motor Service tied up with Telangana State Medical Infrastructure Development Corporation (TSMIDC) for distribution of life-saving medicines, surgical items, saline bottles, oxygen cylinders to various Primary Health Centres covering 33 districts of Telangana. For this purpose 20 Mail Motor Service vehicles are pressed into service during the current situation.
Mail Motor Service vehicles are also providing transport services for ensuring essential supplies to the needy migrant labour – Gas cylinders, Dry Ration Packets etc., in partnership with certain NGOs like SAFA, Rainbow Homes, Gowraram Foundation etc.
Further, the Department of Posts has tied up with the Agriculture Department, Govt. Of Telangana for facilitating Mobile Vegetable markets for the public in various colonies of Hyderabad.
