“Former president of India, Bharat Ratna Dr APJ Abdul Kalam’s life is a message. His life inspires all of us to selflessly strive for the country’s progress,” said Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan.
She stated that Dr Kalam’s humble life and great achievements in serving the country and mankind have a great message and are ever inspiring.
The Governor was addressing Dr Kalam’s birth anniversary virtual celebrations organised by the Lead India Foundation from the Raj Bhavan here on Thursday evening. “My father gave me two books one related to Swami Vivekananda and the other related to Dr APJ Abdul Kalam. They have changed the course of my life forever. Whatever I am today is thanks to the inspiration that I got from the teachings of Swami Vivekananda and Dr Kalam. I have all the books of Dr Kalam in my library,” she said.
Highlighting the importance of Dr Kalam’s teachings, the Governor stated that they do have eternal value. Making a special mention of Dr Abdul Kalam’s inventions like lightweight callipers for the polio-affected children, and affordable stents for the heart surgeries, the Governor stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is following in the footsteps of Dr Kalam by drastically reducing the cost of stents and knee replacement implants.
“Due to the hugely reduced costs of stents and knee replacement implants by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, those poorest of the poor too are now could afford and can go for heart surgeries and knee replacements,” she added.
The Governor pointed out that Dr Kalam was one of the greatest inspirational personalities all over the country and millions still get inspiration from his life, deeds and teachings. Dr Tamilisai appreciated the services of the Lead India Foundation in imparting basic literacy and numeracy skills among the children of government schools, in opening Honesty Stores, and for promoting human values and for taking forward the vision and mission of Dr Abdul Kalam.
Principal Secretary to Government Rajath Kumar, Badminton national coach Pullela Gopichand, Hetero Drugs founder chairman B Partha Sarathi Reddy, Lead India Foundation founder and executive chairman N B Sudarshan Acharya were among others, who spoke on the occasion.
