Andhra Pradesh police have unravelled the mystery behind the damage of the Nandi statue at a temple in Chittoor district and arrested an 8-member inter-state gang in this connection today.
The district superintendent of Police Senthil Kumar revealed that they have taken up the case seriously considering the prevailing situation in the state and formed 3 investigative teams which caught hold of the gang members led by Somasekhar who is involved in similar temple breaking cases in search of hidden treasure.
He further revealed that they have done so much of research and a recky was also done in the temples of Kanipakam, SR Puram, Mantralayam, Mahanandi, Pattikonda, Kurnool, Penugonda, Kadiri, Ananthapur, and Guntur and finally they settled for Anjaneya Swamy temple in Agara Mangalam village wherein they destroyed the huge Nandi statue hoping to get a massive treasure there.
They also procured required tool to do the job including crowbar, hammers, gas cutters, a minister gas stove etc.
SP further revealed that the gang leader Somasekhar was jailed in the past in a temple break case registered earlier with the Machavaram police in Guntur district.
