Andhra Pradesh DGP today announced that a detailed investigation has been launched into the fire accident at Sri Laxminrusimha Swamy temple at Antarvedi in Sakinetipalli mandal of East Godavari district.
The incident in which the temple diety’s Chariot (Ratham) was reduced to ashes, evoked a widespread resentment across the Telugu speaking states. Initially, it is said that the incident occurred due to unexpected fire which later suspected to have been the handiwork of some anti-social elements. However, the ruling party MP from Narasapuram Raghurama Krishnam Raju alleged that it was not an accident but sabotage.
Following this, the state Director General of Police (DGP) in a media note said the police responded to the incident immediately and reached the scene immediately along with Fire personnel who together could be brought the fire under control.
District SP and Eluru range DIG have already inspected the scene and the forensic experts and fire department experts have started for the Antarvedi to collect the evidence and the facts would soon be known, said the DGP.
