AP HC strikes down single Judge order, allows MPTC, ZPTC polls

The Division Bench of the Andhra Pradesh High Court today set aside the stay order issued by the single bench Judge Durga Prasad and permitted the State Election Commission to go ahead with holding Parishad elections as scheduled tomorrow on April 8, 2021.

It may be recalled the stay order was issued by the single Judge yesterday following the petition by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP). However, the SEC moved to a Division Bench against the single judge order. Convinced with the arguments of the Counsel for SEC CV Mohan Reddy and Sriram Subramanyam, the Division Bench issued the orders to hold the elections as decided.

The State Election Commission has made elaborate arrangements to hold the MPTC and ZPTC elections as per schedule slated for Thursday. The counting of which will be held on April 10. Earlier, the Telugu Desam Party (TD) had boycotted the polls terming the notification issued by the newly appointed SEC Neelam Sawhney as ‘Unlawful’.
