The much-awaited notification for the conduct of Municipal elections in Andhra Pradesh has been issued here today. Releasing the notification, the State Election Commissioner informed that the elections to 12 Municipal Corporations and 75 Municipalities in the state will go to polls on March 10 and counting and the results will be announced on March 14, 2021.
The Commissioner also informed the Chief Secretary that the Model Code of Conduct has come into force with immediate effect and will remain in force till the completion of election process up to March 14, 2021.
However, separate notifications have been issued for the resumption of the election process that was stopped at the ‘Withdrawal” stage earlier in respect to the Municipal Corporations of Vizianagaram, Eluru, Machilipatnam, Guntur, Ongole, Tirupati, Chittoor, Kadapa, Kurnool and Ananthapur. In fact, SEC has given the notification earlier on March 9, 2020, for the conduct of the elections in the above corporations. But it was stalled in between due to covid lockdown in the country.
The Commissioner also called upon the registered voters in the above said Municipal Corporations to elect Members of their respective Wards in accordance with the provisions of the said Acts and Andhra Pradesh Municipal Corporations (Conduct of Election of Members) Rules, 2005 made thereunder.
