Bihar government has initiated a unique step to distribute condoms to the migrant labourers who have returned home after completing the quarantine successfully.
The state health and family welfare department officials have decided to do so while returning home after completion of their quarantine period. All the labourers who have arrived in the state from different states through Shramik special trains have been sent to quarantine centres. Upon their successful completion of their quarantine, they were handed over a gift packs containing the condoms.
Government is of the view that since the Covid pandemic is spreading fast and at this hour if they get pregnant it might prove dangerous to both mother and child. Hence, it has been decided to provide condoms to 8.77 lakh labourers who returned home to avoid unwanted pregnancy at this hour. The authorities said that in addition to this, over 5.30 lakh people are still in various quarantine centres in the state. “They also would be counselled before giving them the condom gift pack”, an official said adding that “It has nothing to do with Covid issue”.
