About the Book

These short stories were written by the author over several decades. They reveal, as he himself confesses in the preface, that his perception of various aspects of life and the world around him has changed over the years. As a result the entire collection, when seen as a whole, manifests several interesting points of view and maturity levels and could therefore be of interest to a variety of readers. 

‘Lakshmamma gelupu rahasyam’ (Lakshmamma and Reena) delves into the responses of two different individuals to circumstances. It’s an interesting study of characters. Then there is ‘Viluvalu’s (Values) story that exlores values of society with respect to sex, marriage, women and cultures with a touch of feminism and humanism in them. There are 15 stories in all.


About the Author

B.S. Ramulu (23-8-1949) is a social scientist and a noted writer. He has written more than 150 stories and novels. He is the Founder President of the Andhra Pradesh Writers, Artists and the Intellectuals’ United Forum established in 1992. He is a multifaceted genius who worked relentlessly in the social, literary and philosophical spheres of life. He has written Prefaces to more than 175 works and produced 75 books on different topics. He is known to readers all over the state through his literary and social writings. 

He was accorded the literary award for his work “Mamathalu- Maanava Sambandhalu” (Selected Short Stories) by the Telugu University, Hyderabad in 2002. His story collection “Paalu” (Milk) is included in the syllabus for M.A. Course in the Andhra and Kakatiya Universities. 5 M.Phil Degrees and One Ph.D., were awarded to research scholars by different universities on B.S. Ramulu’s Works. Two more scholars are working for their Ph.D on his writings.

He has been serving the literary field of the story world by conducting workshops and by presenting awards for story writers from the year 1998 by ‘Vishala Sahitya Academy’ to eminent writers and encouraging young writers and moulding their literary careers.

About the Translator

D. Ranga Rao (1932) took his M.A. degree in English Language and Literature from the Andhra University (1953), his PGDTE and M.Litt in ELT from EFLU. He taught English in degree and P.G. colleges from 1953 and was Principal of the above colleges from 1982 to 1995. He was Senator, S.V. University Tirupathi during 1986-89. He was teacher educator and teacher trainer at College and University levels from 1976 and was a member of the faculty of the Collegeate Cell of SCERT from 1976 to 1980 and a member of the External faculty of the CIEFL (EFLU) from 1984 to 2000.

After retirement from service in 1990, he was Chief Producer, ‘Pragathi’, an educational programme of 385 episodes telecast by
ETV during 1996-99. He translated more than 200 episodes of American cartoons and other items of educational interest during the same period telecast by E.Tv. He took up translating novels and short stories of eminent writers from the year 2000. He translated for Sahitya Academi, Madhuranthakam Rajaram’s stories (50), and the Monograph on Arudra by Medipalli Ravi Kumar. His published translations include novels and short stories numbering 9 novels, 10 story collections and other biographical and critical works. 3 novels and 2 story compilations await publication. He edited with critical introduction and notes Beaumont
