Former Union Minister of State Dilip Ray convicted for 3 years imprisonment by a Special Court of the CBI after finding him guilty in connection with the what considered to be the biggest coal scam in India in 1999.

According to the Special CBI Judge Bharat Parashar also convicted 2 other top officials of the Ministry of Coal Pradeep Kumar Benargy and Nityanand Gautham besides the Director of Castron Technologies Private Limited Mahendra Kumar Aggarwal for the 3 years imprisonment along with a fine of Rs10 lakh on each of the convicts besides Rs60 lakhs on the company.

The Judge ruled that Dilip Ray was found guilty in the conspiracy, cheating and criminal breach of trust under section 120-B, 409 and 420 of the IPC allocation of Jharkhand Coal Block to the company in dubious means in 1999 during his tenure as the Union Minister of State for Coal under the late Vajpayee’s cabinet.
