Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has sought centre to confer Bharatha Ratna on the veteran south Indian singer late SP Balasubramanyam.
In a letter to this effect, CM wrote centre to consider his name for Bharatha Ratna this year as he had created a place for himself in the hearts of scores of Indians through a record 40,000 songs in various languages. “It would be a fitting tribute to his contribution to the Indian music industry for 50 years”, said YS Jagan.
The CM also recollected his galore of awards he received including 25 state-level Nandi awards and 6 National Awards besides State awards from Karnataka and Tamilnadu. He had also the recipient of Film Fare awards for 6 times besides receiving an Indian Film Personality of the Year award in 2016. He was also earlier awarded with coveted Padma Sri and Padma Bhushan awards by the Central government in 2001 and 2011, respectively, he added.
