Country’s Largest Tribal Festival Comes To End In Medaram


The country’s 4-day biggest tribal festival, Sammakka Saralamma Jatara in Medaram has officially come to end with tribal goddesses entering the forest after 6 pm today. 

This has announced by the Jayshankar Bhupalapalli District Incharge Collector RV Karnan few hours from now. He has declared that over 1.25 crore people had darshan this year breaking all records. Medaram had just 45 lakh devotees during the last 2 days alone, he said and thanked all the department officials scores of volunteers including the sanitary workers who worked round the clock to keep the environs clean and green and finally making it a big success. 

He said elaborate arrangements have been made to maintain law and order by the police department who have deployed over 10,000 policemen for the purpose. Reacting to the CM’s announcement of allocating Rs.200 crore for the development programme, the Collector said that the district administration would prepare comprehensive proposals for development of the temple on a permanent basis after holding detailed discussions with the temple priests and the other stake holders.

Special Officer of the Medaram festival Prashant Jeevan Patil, District Superintendent of Police R.Bhaskaran, IG K.Nagireddy also spoke on the occasion.

Meanwhile, several VVIPs including Ministers made a beeline to the Medaram earlier in the day to have darshan on the last day. They include Ministers Etela Rajender, Talasani Srinivas Yadav, Chief Secretary Shailendra Kumar Joshi, Secretary Tourism Venkatesh, Secretary Finance and Endowments N. Shiva Shankar, Special Chief Secretary of Energy Dept. Ajay Mishra, Secretary Tribal Welfare Dept. Benhur Mahesh Dutt Ekka, former DGP Anurag Sharma etc.
