Telangana Civil Supplies Department alerted district officials on the sudden heavy rains that lashed the state resulting in damage of paddy ready for sale. Commissioner for Civil Supplies Akun Sabharwal who visited Paddy Procurement Centers in Nalgonda and Suryapet districts on Thursday said that government will buy the wet paddy and farmers are no need to worry in this matter.
He interacted with farmers and inspected wet paddy at Paddy Procurement Centers (PPCs). He reviewed on paddy procurement, transportation, gunny bags, paddy damaged by rains and other issues at PPCs. He instructed officials to keep sufficient Tarpaulin sheets at (PPCs) and shift paddy to rice mills immediately after purchase.
As per the demand lorries should be made available to transport paddy from PPCs to rice mills, coordinating with RTA department paddy should be moved from PPCs immediately. In case of any emergency officials should notice to District Joint Collectors and Head office immediately.
LMD department alerted that in coming couple of days more fresh rains will be there and keeping view of this necessary measure should be taken, like adequate tarpaulins and should make sure farmers are not affected Commissioner said.
Moisture percentage must be checked mainly while paddy purchase and particularly awareness to farmers should be made clearly on moisture percentage to be present in the paddy while selling.
Commissioner said in this Rabi season Civil Supplies Department made target to purchase 40 Lakh metric tons (LMT), till now 1.44 LMT is purchased, in which 1.34 LMT is shifted to mills. On Friday inspection will be made at Khammam and Kothagudem district PPCs.
