At least 23 people said to have died and several others injured in a major road accident on the busy Malegaon-Deola road on Tuesday evening.
According to the Nashik police, the accident occurred after a Maharashtra State Transport Corporation bus and an autorickshaw collided head-on and fell into an open well on the roadside. Police said the death toll rose as the bus fell on the auto in the 70-feet deep well making it difficult for the rescue operators to extricate the bus.
However, initially, 30 persons were saved while 18 others perished. The death toll rose after several others succumbed while undergoing treatment in hospital. Meanwhile, Chie Minister Uddhav Thackeray announced an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh to the kin of each deceased this morning.
