Former Secretary of the Central Committee of Communist Party of India (Maoists) Ganapathi is all set to surrender himself to the State Government.
According to the reliable sources, Ganapathi is said to be in touch with the top brass in Telangana police reportedly discussing over the modalities and conditions for his surrender through his family members.
The 74-year-old Naxal leader Muppala Laxman alias Ganapathy was born in Sarangapur, Karimnagar district in Telangana. He is a science graduate and also holds a B.Ed. degree. He worked as a teacher in Karimnagar district but deserted his job to pursue higher education in Warangal.
Influenced by the veteran Naxal leaders Nalla Adi Reddy and Kondapalli Seetharamaiah, Ganapathi joined the Naxalite Movement and has grown to the level of Central Committee Secretary in 2004 after the then People’s War Group (PWG) changed into Communist Party of India (Maoists).
Ganapathi stepped down as the party Secretary in November 2018 said to be due to ill health and his second-in-command Nambala Keshava Rao alias Basavaraj was appointed as Central Committee Secretary. He later suspected to have fled to the Philippines through Nepal and police could not establish his whereabouts.
National Investigation Agency has announced an award of ₹ 15,00,000 for any information leading to his arrest. The total bounty on his head is the highest currently in India, which is ₹ 3.60 Crore.
If everything goes smooth as planned, the surrender may take place in a day or two and top brass is planning to bring Ganapathi before the media.
In response to the above reports, the Telangana police have issued a statement in the late evening today saying that they would welcome the move by Ganapathi and extend all support and cooperation on the lines of Jampanna and Sudhakar earlier who have joined the mainstream leaving the violent path.
Further stating that they have reliable information that other Naxal leaders like Mallojula Venugopal alias Bhupathi also is willing to surrender along with Ganapathi, the note added “Over 1137 Naxalites have joined the mainstream so far and the cops have supported them in every manner”.
