The Election Commission of India has decided to hold a by-election to a vacant MLC post in Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council on July 6, 2020.
The MLC post fell vacant with the resignation of Docca Manikya Vara Prasad of Telugu Desam Party on March 9, 2020, after he defected to the ruling YSRCP party.
The Commission, after receiving inputs from CEO, Andhra Pradesh, has decided to fill the vacancy by holding elections to the post as per the following schedule:

The EC said adequate measures for close monitoring of the election process by appointing observers shall be taken to ensure a free and fair election. Commission has also directed the Chief Secretary of the State to depute a senior officer from the State to ensure that the extant instructions regarding COVID-19 containment measures are complied with while making arrangements for conducting the elections.
