FCRI calls for admissions into Forestry Degree Course, last date extended to August 5

The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) in order to produce professional foresters for the nation has introduced a Forestry Course in 1985. Thanks to the Telangana Chief Minister Chandrashekar Rao’s vision, the Professional forestry education was introduced in Telangana in 2016 for the first time after the formation of the state. 

The systematic and scientific forest management received significant attraction in recent years due to the global cause of climate change which resulted in many Agricultural universities starting forestry education. In, Telangana, the Forest College and Research Institute (FCRI) are being run by the State Forest Department which is first of its kind in India. At present, FCRI is functioning with seven departments viz., Silviculture and Agroforestry, Natural resource management, Wildlife habitat and management, Forest products and utilization, Tree breeding and Improvement, Forest Ecology and Climate Science and Basic and Social science.

Headed by a senior IFS officer Dr.G.Chandrashekar Reddy, the FCRI has recruited 14 faculties from 12 universities in different states. In addition, there are 7 other faculty members. It is 198 H campus with potential to research and demonstrate the forestry initiatives.

Why Forestry…?

Forestry is a universal and multidisciplinary subject has dealt with the traditional to contemporary knowledge of forestry science like Forest management, Forest inventory, Forest protection and forest tree breeding. This unique phenomenon of the course captivates many countries to start forestry education to resolve climate glitches.

B.Sc.(Hons) Forestry course has been designed to study the scientific forest management led not only to increase the green cover of the nation but also to manage and conserve natural resources like Floral & faunal diversity and watershed resources. The forestry course syllabus is covered all the prerequisites essential for a forester to possess. It formulated to give excellence in forestry, Forest engineering and Botany with all field-based training in every aspect.

The Forestry graduates have a wider scope and opportunities from government, Non-government and wood-based industries. Now, it has been enriched with student ready program which will make forestry entrepreneurs and four-year forestry course utmost fascinated course in the student concern in the recent past. 

The curriculum comprises of 10 days exposure visit to Telangana forests and 2 weeks to Southern of India forests and 3 weeks to Northen India forests. During 5th and 6th semesters, the students should take up Forest Entrepreneurship project and demonstrate the model. The 7th semester is completely field-oriented with 45 days Forest Range attachment and 15 days NGO and Watershed management attachment, 15 days forest-based industry attachment and 10 days on Urban Forestry attachment 2 weeks wildlife attachment and so on.

Last Date for Admissions Extended

This year the applications for admission into 3-year forestry course has been called for by the FCRI. The admission is based on the EAMCET rank and the last date for application for admission into Forestry Course has been extended up to August 5, 2019.
