Popular folk singer from north Andhra Vangapandu Prasada Rao passed away early this morning at his native Pedabondapalli residence near Parvathipuram in Vizianagaram district of Andhra Pradesh.
He breathed his last in his sleep in the early hours today due to heart stroke, according to his family members. He is 77 and survived by two sons and a daughter. Widely known as ‘Vangapandu’, he actively participated in Communist-led agitations in the country. He is well known for his multiple talents of composing, singing, dancing, and acting. His revolutionary songs yantrametta nadustumdantee, Jajjenaka janare, eem pillado eldamostavaa, oda nuv vellipoke etc. are very popular.
He was one among the key 3 persons who have founded Jananatya Mandali, the frontline cultural wing of the Peoples’ War Group in 1972. The other two being Gaddar and Director B Narasing Rao of Dasi fame. He also acted in few movies prominent being Ardharathri Swathantrayam. He received the Kalaratna award from the Government of Andhra Pradesh.
