Ganesh festival takes off with fervour in Hyderabad


The 10-day long Ganesh Festival has commenced in Hyderabad today with much fanfare. Traditional prayers, chants of ‘Jai Bolo Ganesh Maharaj Ki Jai’ rent the air besides sweet offerings of ‘Laddoos’ and ‘Modaks’ by devotees marked the commencement of the Ganesh festival in Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana today.

 Idols of different shapes and sizes of the elephant-headed god, the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati and considered as a symbol of wisdom, prosperity and good fortune, were installed in every lanes and bylane besides at homes of devotees.

Chief Minister Chandrasekhar Rao along with his family members installed a 7-feet clay Ganesh idol at Pragati Bhavan and offered prayers along with his family members.

Similarly, the Governor couple ESL Narasimhan and his wife Vimala Narasimhan too performed a pooja at the Raj Bhavan premises.

Meanwhile, Governor Narasimhan has extended warm greetings and best wishes to the people of Telangana on the occasion of Vinayaka Chavithi festival today. The Governor in his message said the nine-day Ganapathi Navarathri celebrations stand a symbol of spiritual, social and cultural unity among the people. The festival would promote peace, communal harmony and mutual understanding among the people belonging to various faiths, he said.
