GHMC takes up re carpeting of roads up to 709 km in lockdown


The repairs, widening and recarpeting of road works taken up under CRMP is progressing at a brisk pace in GHMC area and it aims to complete by end of lockdown period, said the Chief Engineer CRMP Ziauddin

According to him, the GHMC has allotted maintenance of city roads up to 709 Kms to the agencies under 7 packages for a period of 5 years. In order to provide international roads, the main roads 709 Kms consisting of 401 stretches given to agencies. Apart from re-carpeting city roads with international standards the maintenance of sanitation, stormwater drains also rests with them.


Out of 709 Km re-carpeting, 50 % of re-carpeting should be completed by June 2020.  Out of 331 Kms target till now 208 Kms re-carpeting completed. By May month-end a total of 280 – 300 km out of 331 km target will be completed, he said.

Mayor Dr Bonthu Rammohan on the instruction of the Minister for Municipal Administration KT Rama Rao inspecting works progress on a daily basis. As per his instructions, the agencies are able to fully utilize the lockdown period to complete the works on war footing basis with advanced machinery and minimum manpower while following physical distance and safety measures.

GHMC officials Zonal Commissioners, Superintendents are monitoring the works on a daily basis along with agencies in co-ordination with the other departments, Ziauddin said adding that the agencies have taken up patchworks, lane marking, footpath, central median, road safety lane marking paintings works etc.
