The much-awaited elections schedule to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has been announced by the State Election Commissioner G Parthasaradhi here today.
Releasing the notification here today, the SEC declared that the polling will be held in all the 150 wards in the city on December 1, 2020. The submission of Nominations will be commenced immediately from tomorrow for 3 days on November 18,19 & 20.
The Scrutiny of Nominations will be taken up on November 21 while Withdrawal of Nominations is allowed up to November 22, 2020, at 3 pm. The polling for which will be held on December 1, 2020, from 7 am to 6 pm.
However, the date of counting of votes will be held on December 4, 2020, and the results will be declared on the same day. “If any recounting needs to be done, the decision will be taken by the commission based on the inquiry reports”, he announced.
He also announced that over 1004 polling stations out of 2,938 were declared as hypersensitive in about 70 locations of which 253 are treated as ‘Critical Polling Stations’.
The deposit amount for each contestant has been fixed at Rs5,000 for general category and Rs2,500 for SC, ST category and election expenditure for each candidate should not cross more than Rs5 lakh per head and he or she should submit the list of expenditure within 45 days of the results.
Further informing the modalities, the SEC also warned against those violators of rules, if found, will attract suspension besides imprisonment up to 3 years.
Referring to the electoral rolls, reservations and division of wards, he said, as on date the SEC has adopted the same that has been followed in the last Assembly elections as the delimitation of wards and reservations are the subject matter of the state government. Hence, the elections will be conducted as per Section 7 of the GHMC Act, he said.
