The CEO of Telangana Election Commission Dr Rajat Kumar convened an All Party meeting with representatives of National and State Recognized political parties in connection with the Special Summary Revision of Photo Electoral Rolls following a clearance from the High Court to conduct the Municipal Elections in the state.
A division bench of the Telangana High Court comprising Chief Justice Raghavendra Singh Chouhan and Justice Abhishek Reddy have dismissed the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by the TPCC President Uttam Kumar Reddy after a daylong hearing on the Schedule for the Municipal Elections released on December 23, 2019, by the Commission without finalising the final voters’ list and the ward-wise reservations based on which the division bench had earlier called for a detailed explanation from the EC.
With this, the route for holding elections has been cleared following which the CEO has briefed the representatives of all parties about the schedule of SSR 2020 and informed that the draft roll was published on December 16, 2019, and was placed on the website www.ceotelangana.nic.in, claims & objection period is up to January 15, 2020, and the final publication of electoral is February 7, 2020.
The CEO has also informed about the preparation of Nazri Naksha by geo-referencing of households with the EPICs. Lastly, the CEO has also informed about the celebration of National Voters’ Day on January 25th, 2020 with the theme “Electoral Literacy for Stronger Democracy”.
The representatives of political parties while appreciating Geo-referencing of Households and EPICs in the state have requested that it must reflect in the final roll and while discussing on certain issues of the SSR have suggested organizing special campaign days and deletion of the repeated electors in the draft roll.
Dr Rajat Kumar also agreed to organize Special Campaign days on January 11 & 12, 2020 at all Polling Stations in the State and instructed the concerned officers to issue necessary instruction to all the DEOs in this regard.
