Health workers attacked by Tablighis in Indore

A section of the Indian minority Muslim community seems to have resolved to fight against Prime Minister Narendra Modi than against the dreaded Coronavirus. A video of health workers being attacked by a frenzied mob in a Muslim-dominated Tatpatti Bakhal Basti in Indore city of Madhya Pradesh is of any evidence for the claim.

According to ANI report, the incident occurred as the health workers reached a house in the Tatpatti Bakhal Basti to screen the inmates for coronavirus on the tip-off that an inmate has arrived in town after attending the Tablighi Jamaat meet in New Delhi on Tuesday. As soon as the health workers entered the area, stones were pelted at them. Abuses were also hurled. They were literally chased by the mob. However, no one was injured. A case has been registered.

The stone-pelting incident comes as a surprise to the health workers who have visited the area earlier as well as the government has identified the area as one of the COVID-19 hotspots of the city.

As many as 63 persons have tested positive for the virus in Indore so far including a 28-year-old woman gynaecologist working with a government hospital here. Ever since the Tablighi Jamaat episode broke out, the Health workers across the country are at the receiving end of the wrath of the public.

According to a Railway spokesperson that some of the 167-odd Tablighi Jamaat attendees who were sent to a railway facility at Tughlakabad in South Delhi for quarantine ‘misbehaved’ with and ‘even spit’ at doctors and healthcare personnel attending on to them.
