All legal impediments have been cleared for the smooth conduct of GHMC elections slated for December 1, 2020, as Telangana High Court has refused to hear a petition seeking to stop the GHMC elections on a priority basis.

The Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi while hearing the argument of counsel for the petitioner Rachana Reddy, made it clear that the court will hear the case after clubbing all such petitions together but cannot hear on each of similar petitions.

The counsel Rachana Reddy brought to his notice that the notification for GHMC polls has been issued without finalising reservations and against the usual norms of conducting on the rotation basis. She also argued that the recently amended GHMC Act Section 52E is illegal and has no legal standing.

With the decision of the high court, all hurdles for the GHMC polls have been mitigated and the elections would be held as per the schedule as announced on December 1, 2020.
