Humanity at times may appear to be at stake for some reason or the other during normal times but it, in fact, wakes up to the reality whenever the crisis looms large over the human society.

With sudden lockdown due to the spread of dreaded Coronavirus has made several lives miserable especially in the old city area, the members of Lions Club Charminar Centennial have emerged as the messiah for daily wage earners, homeless, stranded and needy for whom getting one square a meal has become a herculean task. They exhibited their generosity by taking up poor feeding to not less than 1000 people a day. All those people stranded or live on roads due to lockdown have been served with Dal & White Rice.

They have taken up this holy task covering 43 localities in the entire old-city including Bibi Bazar, Ghazi-e- Millat Colony, Mogalpura, Kalapathar, Nasheman Nagar, Akram Nagar, Tadbun, Sultan Shahi, Talab Katta, Fateh Darwaza, Sattar Bagh, Osman Bagh, Mahbub Gunjj, Malakpet, Moin Pura, Bhavani Nagar, Yakutpura, Madanapet, Kaladera, Jangamet, Darushifa masjid, Khaitija Begum masjid, Faqrunnissa Begum masjid, Santoshi Aunty Bada, Vattalapally, Moula Ka chilla, Ghouse Nagar, Barkas, Ahmed Nagar, Bandla guda, and Nori Nagar.

When asked Lion Mohammed Farooq of Ghouse Khaomshi Trust said: “It all began when we found many people in the old city went without a meal on the day of ‘Janata Curfew’. We have prepared a meal for all of them and distributed it in the middle of the night. From that day we are feeding them every day with help from the donors. Most of the time we urge people to sponsor either in cash or kinds like Rice, oil, Lakdi (firewood), or vegetables etc.”.

He further informed that two kitchens have been set up to cook meals wherein 60 volunteers work in two shifts. “One kitchen has been set up in Azam function hall in Mogulpura and another at Shaheen Nagar. We cover almost 43 localities in the old city area”, he said.

However, he is not alone in this noble deed. Besides Ghouse Khaomshi Trust, MEHAR organisation led by Affan Quadri, Rabbatta Foundation led by Sobiya Juveriya and Shaheen Women and Child Welfare Trust have joined their hands.
