IAF brings home 58 Indians stranded in Iran

58 Indians who arrived from Iran are seen in Hindon airport, Gaziabad

The Indian Air Force (IAF) has brought back 58 Indians from coronavirus-hit Iran today. The special IAF aircraft ‘C-17 Globemaster’ which took off from Iran yesterday arrived in Hindon civilian airport at Gaziabad. It was sent to Iran on Monday evening.

According to the Minister for External Affairs Dr S Jaishankar, over 6000 Indians have been stranded in Iran alone and out of which 1100 were pilgrims. “We could bring 58 of them and our priority is now to bring other travellers also back home”, he said.

The 58 Indians who arrived here are mostly Fishermen belonging to Ladakh, Jammu-Kashmir and Maharashtra and were on a pilgrimage. They were thoroughly screened before being airlifted at Tehran.
