Telangana’s Jagan Mohan Rao Arshanapally wins the Handball Federation of India (HFI) Presidential election unanimously.
He created history by becoming the first Telanganite to become the president of the National Sports Federation unopposed despite all odds. He faced stiff competition from the former president of HFI Ramasubramanyam who went to the extent of seeking Judicial intervention to continue to have his grip over the Federation.
A leading educationalist and noted entrepreneur from Telangana Jagan Mohan Rao Arshnapally has been in the forefront of promoting sports, especially in the handball segment both in and outside the state. His commitment and dedication took the once-neglected sport to the International level. He has brought several laurels to the state and the country by organising international sports meets in Hyderabad, Delhi and elsewhere in the country and outside.
Jagan played a vital role in the Telangana T20 league in 2018. His own team Medak Mavericks finished this tourney as runner-ups. Next, Jagan eyed for the Mumbai Cricket League, for which legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar acted as the commissioner and Sachin Tendulkar as the brand ambassador. Jagan even bought a team, Sobo Supersonics and allowed young cricketers to shine in the tournament. He established T-sports Hub Academy to help young sportsmen.
Jaganmohan Rao was playing a key role in Handball association from 2018. In 2019, he became the president of Telangana Handball Federation. After taking charge of THF, he successfully held Asia Handball, Inter-District National Handball tournaments in Hyderabad successfully. As a result, he became Vice-President of National Handball Federation. After becoming Vice-president Jagan proposed a Handball Premier League to make this game popular. Teams and Franchise selection, the player auction was complete. All of this was supervised by Jagan himself. But due to Covid-19 pandemic, the league got delayed.
Speaking to MaaHyderabad, Jagan vowed to work hard for the development of handball in the country. “Handball is a very popular game in India. But it’s highly overshadowed by Cricket and badminton. To cope with this problem, we came up with the idea of Handball Premier League. Our nation lacks necessary infrastructure for handball. That’s why we are focusing on developing handball infrastructure on a national level with the help of Union sport’s ministry, IOA and SAI. We will hunt for talented youngsters and facilitate them with expert coaches. We will train Indian athletes with the goal to achieve medals in the Olympics after the Tokyo Olympics,” said Jagan Mohan.
