A large number of journalists stormed the Medchal Collectorate and staged a dharna in front protesting against the suspension of accreditation card to Eenadu journalist Bhanu Chander Reddy.
It may be recalled, the district authorities have withdrawn the accreditation facility to the Eenadu local representative on the pretext that he had filed a wrong story on the ‘Shifting of HMDA office to Ameerpet’. The Telangana State Union of Working Journalists (TS TUWJ) led by its general secretary Virahat Ali condemned the act and demanded the government to restore the accreditation facility to the correspondent immediately. He termed the act as ‘undemocratic’ and ‘autocratic’
‘This act of authorities tentamounts to violation of freedom of expression. They do not have rights to withdraw the facility without consulting the Committee for Accreditations formed by the state government’, he added.
The others who attended the programme include TSUWJ state treasurer Mahipal Reddy, Medchal district unit president Venkat Reddy, secretary G Balaraj, RR District president Srikanth Reddy, National and State Council members Venkatesh Goud, Ravinder, Malkaiah, DG Srinivas Sarma etc. Later delegation met the Collector MV Reddy and submitted a memorandum to this effect.
