The year-long birth centenary celebrations of former Prime Minister of India PV Narasimha Rao took off on a grand note with much fanfare here at PV Ghat in Necklace road on Sunday.
Chief Minister Chandrasekhar Rao launched the programme in the presence of who’s who of political and official circles cutting across the party lines. He was remembered by his native Telangana state in specific and country in general on the occasion of his centenary celebrations on Sunday.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister reiterated his demand for awarding Bharath Ratna to the legendary PM from south PV Narasimha Rao. He recalled his services both in the state and the national level to bringing about a sea change.
“The economic reforms he brought in during his tenure as Prime Minister has changed the face of the country. The seed he sowed as PM had yielded fruits which we are enjoying today”, he said adding that his intellect, decision-making ability, and his proficiency in 18 languages has made him the leader par excellence.
The others who spoke on the occasion include Chairman of Centenary celebrations Committee Dr K Kesav Rao, PV’s son Prabhakar Rao, daughter Vani, Assembly Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy. Convenor Dr KV Ramana Chary presided the programme.
Earlier, the Chief Minister accompanied by the Ministers, MLAs, MPs and leaders of opposition Congress party Uttam Kumar Reddy, besides CPI and CPM have paid their floral tributes to the PV’s portrait. However, the BJP party leaders led by its state chief Bandi Sanjay Kumar have paid their respects to the PV in the afternoon.
