The state unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alleged that the state government’s callousness has resulted in a spurt in the number of Covid positive cases in the state.

Alleging to this effect during an online media interaction through video conferencing here today, the former president of BJP state unit Prof K Laxman charged that the State is playing with the Public Health. He took serious objections at the poor conduct of Covid tests despite tall claims by the Chief Minister. “CM has no respect for the Central government orders and even for the High Court judgement which ordered to conduct covid tests even on dead bodies. Still, there is no response from CM”, he said questioning as to whether KCR has any plans to have a separate constitution for Telangana state.

Revealing the statistics with regard to the Covid tests done across the country, Laxman said that TS is the only state to have conducted the lowest number of tests in the country with 1,850 tests done so far out of which 452 have been tested positive. “Whereas Maharashtra conducted 41,385 tests, Tamilnadu 48,000, Uttar Pradesh 38,718, Rajasthan 38,723. On average, 15000 tests have been conducted so far by other states while TS has conducted only 2500”, he said adding “This clearly shows the callous attitude of the state government. If questioned, they are attacking us in return”.

The government has completely failed even in utilising the private labs although ICMR had permitted 25 labs in the state to conduct Covid tests. “But the KCR government did not allow them and instead filed cases and seized two labs for conducting covid tests”, he said.

He further said that we could have conducted 15000 tests had we utilised these private Labs as the government confined the tests to not more than 500. Besides, he said, medical staff in Gandhi hospital were starving for protection kits, N95 masks etc. This has led to at least 70 doctors getting affected by the virus.

The BJP leader demanded that an in-depth inquiry into the circumstances leading to the low covid tests besides the deaths of Covid patients Madhusudhan in whose case habeas corpus petition was filed in High Court and the exchange of dead body of Surendra last night besides the death of Journalist Manoj. He demanded Rs 50 lakh to be paid to Manoj’s family.

Meanwhile, MLC Ramachandra Rao announced that a BJP delegation would go to Pragathi Bhavan to meet the Chief Minister and submit a memorandum to this effect on June 12. However, he added that the CM either should give us an appointment to meet him or he should come out of Pragati Bhavan to meet us on the day.
