The Union Minister of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy today visited the new COVID-19 Isolation Ward and Research and Innovation Facility at the ESIC Hospital, Sanath Nagar. Kishan Reddy interacted with the doctors and other front-line health caregivers followed by enquiries about the new technological advancements in the area of healthcare, in light of the prevailing pandemic.
Kishan Reddy was appraised during a presentation by Registrar, ESIC Medical College Dr Madhuri Taranikanti about various functional COVID-19 care facilities at the Institute and the future plans. She shared on this occasion that an independent continuous oxygen supply facility, procurement of a robust high throughput diagnostic system Cobars 8800, and establishment of negative ICUs are in the process of being set up at the hospital.
Explaining further, Dr Madhurima said that the Medical College has made tremendous progress inpatient care services, Teaching and Research and has received the Best Medical College Hospital and Best Super Speciality Hospital Awards from the ESI Corporation for its first best and unique initiatives.
She also informed that the institute has state of the art facilities to provide best patient care services to the Insured Persons and their beneficiaries. Ever since the institute has collaborated with eminent organizations like DRDO, IITs, TIFR, NIPER, UoH, etc to tackle the COVID-19 and has set up the first of its kind Mobile Virology Diagnostic and Research Laboratory it has been working very much in Virology diagnostics and COVID-19 care.
Several indigenous, cost-effective, innovative devices to help the corona patients have been designed by ESIC Medical College in collaboration with these institutes. The institute has also received permission from ICMR to conduct the Randomized Controlled Trial to Assess the Safety and Efficacy of Convalescent Plasma for treatment of COVID-19.
Minister also visited the Department of Transfusion Medicine with “COVID Plasma Blood Bank” and appreciated the efforts by the department saying that ESIC Medical College, Hyderabad has always been in the forefront to tackle health issues and now COVID-19.
During the visit, Minister had enquired regarding Testing facilities, Collection, Storage facilities and Voluntariness of Covid-19 recovered patients for Convalescent Plasma donation. The Minister was impressed by the infrastructure, the innovations, and the facilities available at ESIC Medical College.
He congratulated the Dean, Dr Srinivas, Doctors, staff, and students for their tireless efforts in combating the disease and for giving the best of the patient care services. He especially interacted with and appreciated the efforts of doctors, nurses, technicians, and security personnel in their untiring efforts being bestowed in COVID-19 care. Kishan Reddy listened to a few of the doctors and nurses about their contributions in patient care and expressed his happiness.
