KTR unveils Ambedkar Statue design, sanctions 140 crore


As promised 4 years ago, the state government has initiated efforts to install a 125-foot statue of Dr BR Ambedkar on the banks of Hussain Sagar Lake in the city today.

Releasing the designs of the Statue and the Memorial of Dr BR Ambedkar, the host Ministers comprising Etela Rajendar, Koppula Eshwar, Satyavathi Rathod and Government Whip Guvvala Balaraj while thanking the CM KCR for coming forward to complete the project, said that the proposed statue and the memorial will be set up at a cost of Rs 140 Crore in 11 acres of land next to LV Prasad IMax theatre on the banks Hussain Sagar lake. A beautiful park will also be developed in the land surrounding the statue and the memorial, they said adding that the Chief Secretary has issued orders according to administrative sanction to this effect.

The ministers said that statue would be at 125 feet in height, 45.5 feet in width and will consist of over 791 tonnes of steel and 96 tonnes of brass.

Earlier, the Minister for Municipal Administration KT Rama Rao has formally unveiled the designs while the Ministers thanked him for the gesture.
