The Maoists on Sunday night exploded a landmine near the medium irrigation project Taaliper in Cherla mandal of Bhadradri Kothagudem district.

The explosion said to have occurred in the wee hours today that sent a shock wave among the people in this region following the bandh call given by the Maoists to protest against the recent encounter of their colleague Doodi Deval alias Shankar in Gundala Mandal. However, it is reliably learnt that explosion took place as part of the Maoists’ experimenting with a landmine. There are no reports of either anyone sustaining an injury or damaging any vehicle.

Further details are awaited. Meanwhile, posters appealing people to observe bandh in protest against the ‘fake encounter of Shankar’ have appeared on the walls in several villages on behalf of area committee secretaries of Cherla-Shabari and Palvancha-Manguru Aruna and Manthu, respectively.
