The Biodiversity flyover at Gachibowli was reopened for traffic this morning by the City Mayor Bonthu Rammohan.
The flyover has been shut down for traffic since 42 days after an accident in which a car jumped off the bridge at a curve killing one lady Satyavathi on the spot and injuring four others seated inside the car.
The flyover built at a cost of Rs69.47 crore was inaugurated on November 4 but no sooner on November 10, 2 youth Praveen and Vamshi Raju died after falling from the bridge after a speeding car hit them while taking selfie on the bridge. In the next 10 days on November 23, another incident took place forcing GHMC authorities to close down the flyover for reassessing engineering defects, if any following a hue and cry raised by public and political parties.
GHMC authorities took several precautions by arranging more than 1200 rumble strips to control the speed while the rubber speed breaker was laid at one place. White and Red colour Cat-eyes were marked throughout the bridge with a side railing was erected on the left side at the curve. Several traffic signboards were set up at vantage points throughout the bridge displaying the speed limit as 40.
