Municipal Elections to Greater Warangal, Khammam likely on March 6

Hyderabad : State government understood to have decided to hold elections to the local bodies such as Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation and Khammam Municipal Corporation on March 6. The decision is said to have taken by the Chief Minister in a meeting with the top officials on Sunday. The decision came in the wake of his idea of completing the election process to all the eligible municipalities and municipal corporations before the begining of the budget session in the next month. As part of this, it is also decided to hold elections simulteneously to Mahabubnagar and Achampet municipalities on the same day as the government has already announced the list of wards eligible for reservations to the above municipalities. But this is all possible only when the government issues orders to this effect tonight or tomorrow. Government has already made elaborate arrangements to complete the election process within 15 days from the date of notification.

However, it is learnt that the elections to the Siddipet Municipality may not materialise as the case pertaining to the merger of 5 villages into Siddipet municipality is pending with high court on which the next hearing is expected on Feb 29. Hence, the timining may not match with the government’s objective of holding elections on March 6.
