Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan on Monday called for greater awareness on the National Education Policy (NEP)-2020.
She said that the NEP-2020 is not only a policy of education but the policy of the nation and this was the courageous and concrete step by the Central government to give the right direction to the education system in the country. Stating that the NEP-2020 has the potential to regain India’s position as the Vishwa Guru, the Governor called for the effective implementation of the landmark policy.
Addressing the webinar to launch the MyNEP competitions on New Education Policy-2020 organised by the Vidya Bharathi organisation, Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan urged different stakeholders to take an active part in the effective implementation of the NEP-2020 so as to realise its stated objective of turning India as the Knowledge Super Power.
“As the policy is aimed at moulding our students as Global Citizens with strong Indian roots, the onus is on all of us to take the initiative forward to make India as the destination for international education,” she added.
The Governor said that the NEP-2020 rightly emphasises on interdisciplinary studies and research, vocational education, student-centric learning and teaching and practical-based modern education that is in tune with the international standards.
Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan pointed out that the policy also focussed on nutritional aspects as part of the Early Childhood Care and Education and gave top priority for education with nutrition to build a healthy nation.
“Greater autonomy to educational institutions, increased choices to students to pursue the courses of their choice in inter-disciplinary approach, improved accessibility to higher education to all the sections of the people by creating 3.5 crore additional seats would go a long way in catapulting the higher education system to the next level,” the Governor said.
She said that NEP-2020 would ensure man-making education in the true spirit of Swami Vivekananda’s teachings and would train the students as future-ready with required skill sets and with an entrepreneurial spirit.
The Governor lauded the efforts of Vidya Bharati in creating awareness about the NEP-2020 among the students by conducting competitions for different categories through ‘MyNEP’ initiative.
