The National Green Tribunal has issued notices to the Telangana State Government and the Minister for Municipal Administration KT Rama Rao in connection with the latter’s controversial farmhouse in green zone area of the Gandipet lake.
The Tribunal also constituted a 6-member committee to look into the allegations whether the said farmhouse of the Minister was constructed in the green zone or whether the Minister violated environment norms specified by the GO No.111 or whether the construction was in accordance with the rules and regulations etc. The orders also said that the committee would also make suggestions in this regard and submit its report within 2 months.
The members of the committee comprise each official from Union Environment, Telangana Pollution Control Board, GHMC, HMDA, Lake protection Division and RR District Collector. The Tribunal has postponed the next hearing to August 26.
It may be recalled the issued had generated political heat in the state following the arrest of Malkajgiri MP Revanth Reddy who attempted to visit the farmhouse and made video surveillance using the drones in the first week of March. This has resulted in his arrest and was sent to 14 days judicial remand. Revanth after his release from the jail filed a writ petition in the NGT court.
