Few farmers of Nizamabad have burnt the BJP’s Tamilnadu’s manifesto for promising to set up a Turmerci Board there.
The farmers raised slogans against BJP questioning their BJP MP Arvind for making a false promise of setting up a Turmeric Development Board in Tamilnadu and denying the same in Nizamabad after making such a promise in the last election.
They also reminded that on March 15, the centre categorically said there was no proposal to set up a Turmeric Board in Telangana in a reply to TRS MP KR Suresh Reddy’s query in the Rajya Sabha.
It may be recalled, the Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry had already established a Regional Office-cum-Extension Centre of Spices Board at Nizamabad for export promotion of spices including turmeric.
Telangana contributes 78 per cent of total turmeric production in the world. Telangana is the largest producer of turmeric with 3.86 lakh tonnes out of 11.53 lakh tonnes being produced in the country besides a cultivation area of 1.37 lakh acres.
