Telangana’s popular Bathukamma festival should be observed from October 16 to 24 this year, according to the Telangana Vidwat Sabha.
A decision to this effect was taken at its virtual meeting held today which was attended by over more than 35 Vedic pundits, religious scholars and astrologers from across the state. Announcing the decisions of the meeting, the President of the Vidvat Sabha Yayavaram Chandrashekhara Sharma informed that the Sabha which met here in Sri Shrungeri Peetham, Nallakunta (Shankara Mutt) last year on the same has prepared a list of dates on which the Hindu festivals are to be observed in accordance with the season, date, star, timings etc. and the list of festivals to be observed in this Sarvari Nama Samvatsara has been handed over to the state government.
However, Sharma said that a lot of confusion is being created on the social media platforms on the exact dates of festivals to be held in this Ashwayuja Masam (month) following which the Telangana Vidvat Sabha met online today and decided to hold Engilipula Bathukamma on October 16 to mark the beginning of the 9-day festival. The last day of Saddula Bathukamma should be observed on October 24. However, he said people can follow the age-old tradition of observing Saddula Bathukamma on different dates in different regions.
Secretary of Telangana Vidvasabha Divya Gnyana Siddhanthi was also present on the occasion.
