Orders postponing the Census 2021 issued due to Covid


The Census 2021 which was scheduled to be conducted in two phases including House listing & Housing Census during April-September, 2020 and Population Enumeration from February 9 to 28th, 2021 stands postponed due to the widespread Covidvirus threat in the country.

The Updation of NPR was also proposed to be done along with the Phase I of Census 2021 in all the States/UTs, except Assam. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India has issued advisories for various precautionary measures, including social distancing.

Keeping in view the above, the first phase of Census 2021 and Updation of NPR, beginning April 1st 2020 and various related field activities, are postponed until further orders.

It may be recalled that the Union Minister of State for Home G Kishan Reddy has announced this recently in a media meet at Delhi.
