Amaravati: TDP National President and former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Monday while thanking his party leaders for fighting against the ruling YSRCP party atrocities in the Panchayat election termed the outcome as the ‘people’s victory.
Naidu warned the Chief Minister and his party MLAs for what he termed the midnight murder of democracy perpetrated in the panchayat polls would not run in the coming municipal elections. The urban voters, young people, traders and educated sections were all well prepared to oppose the YCP for its J-tax collections, increased municipal taxes and unabashed sale of unhealthy J-liquor brands, he said.
Addressing a press conference here, the TDP chief asserted that the TDP supported candidates won 41.7 per cent vote share in the 4th phase panchayat polls despite the multifarious threats and election violations by the YCP leaders. The TDP by itself won 1,105 out of the total 2,748 panchayats and 31 more TDP allies also emerged victoriously. Altogether, the TDP and its allies won 1,136 seats. The TDP would have got 10 per cent more vote share had the ruling YCP leaders been prevented from committing irregularities by the State Election Commission.
Naidu further said that the YCP would have been wiped out in the panchayat polls itself if the State Election Commission (SEC) did not fail to ensure a peaceful election. It was due to the fear and terror-struck by the YCP leaders and total failure of the Election Commission that there was 6 per cent less voter turnout when compared to the previous panchayat polls. All these factors would have dealt a severe blow to the YCP if a fair election was ensured.
Naidu asserted that the people’s revolt was palpable going by the support, the TDP candidates received everywhere. At many places, hundreds of villages came out and stayed put on the roads till after midnight to bring pressure on the officials to ensure a fair deal to the TDP candidates.
The TDP chief said that their party would hold protest demonstrations at all the district Collectorates and submit memoranda demanding action against the election violations resorted to by the officials, police and the ruling party leaders in the panchayat polls. The TDP would also go to the court wherever the officials unjustly announced wrong results in order to favour the YCP candidates. No candidate should feel alone in this struggle and the TDP would stand by them till justice is done to them.
Strongly opposing the unanimous results, Chandrababu Naidu said that Minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy would not be able to win 85 panchayats unanimously without the support of the police. The TDP was in power for 22 years and it always protected the democratic process of elections. The YCP was in power for only two years but it was trying to rule the people through the chaos without respect for the constitution. Only through false cases, terror and threats that the YCP won 90 seats unanimously in Pulivendula, 71 in Sri Kalahasti, 30 in Thamballapalle, 74 in Macherla and other segments.
Naidu asked the Election Commission why it could not take any action against the police officer who threatened to encounter a TDP leader if he did not stop demanding justice in the Kuppam segment. Some police officials were totally crossing all limits and they should be careful in future. It was very sad the AP SEC was incapacitated and unable to take any action against the wrongdoers though it had got equal powers on a par with the Central Election Commission. When TN Seshan was there in Delhi as the CEC, all the election officials in the gully throughout the country held the polls boldly in an unbiased manner.
Chandrababu Naidu asked why the SEC was not able to take action against the officials who disconnected power at the counting centres. This was done deliberately to help the ruling YCP and election staff to manipulate the results under the cover of midnight darkness. In Bhimili in Visakhapatnam district, power was cut only to the counter centre building while the bulbs were glowing in all the buildings in the surroundings.
Naidu ridiculed the reports and asserted that their party would see to what extent the Vizag fake Swamiji would be able to use the black magic to kill the TDP leaders. It was unfortunate that the Chief Minister was making frequent visits to such a false Swami. Since the CM was visiting him, the DGP and the IPS officers were also surrendering to the fake Swami. The situation was so pitiable that the suspended Executive Officer of the Durga Temple immediately went and met the fake Swami for his blessings.
