The petitioner who is also the Convenor of TS Engineer Forum, Donthu Laxminarayana claimed that the government has so far lifted the 2 TMC of waters through Canal Gravitation Tunnel and Lift System. “This is resulting in the expenditure of Rs 1000 crore annually just on maintenance. This would also result in land acquisition and power distribution issues etc.”, said the petitioner.

The petition further claimed that despite the orders of CWC (Central Water Commission) and the National Green Tribunal not to go ahead with the project, the state government is moving forward, he claimed and sought to take up the case for hearing in which notices have already been issued to the government in this regard.

However, the court refused to hear the PIL on an emergency basis and ordered the petitioner to reapply for the same.
